The National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) was launched in 2016 by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India, with the primary goal of offering vocational training to enhance job opportunities.
Following its success, the NAPS 2.0, fully funded by the Central Government under the 'Skill India' initiative, was introduced to expand its reach and impact.
Objectives:
Developing a Skilled Workforce: Promotes on-the-job training to create a proficient workforce.
Incentivizing Employers: Encourages companies to offer training by sharing the stipend cost for trainees with the industry.
Extending Skill Opportunities: Targets candidates who have completed short-term skill programs under various Central and State Government initiatives.
Supporting MSMEs and Underserved Regions: Focuses on training within Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and extending opportunities to underprivileged areas.
Training Programs:
One-Year Training for graduates from Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs).
Two-Year Apprenticeship for those without an ITI certification.
Industry-Specific Vocational Courses tailored to the needs of various sectors.
Basic Training Durations: Range from 6 to 12 months, with some programs extending beyond a year upon Ministry approval.
Stipend:
Trainees receive up to ₹9,000 per month as a stipend, with the Central Government covering 25% of the apprenticeship grant.
Sectors:
NAPS covers industries like manufacturing, agriculture, banking, chemicals, jewelry design, industrial automation, maritime industries, and more.
