The Government College of Fine Arts functioning in Chennai & Kumbakonam coming under the ambit Directorate of Art & Culture offers interesting UG and PG courses.   

Notification regarding admission to these colleges attached with The Tamil Nadu Dr.J Jayalalithaa Music and Fine Arts University was released recently.

UG Courses: The colleges offer 4 year BFA courses in specialisations like Visual Communication Design, Painting, Sculpture, Industrial Design in Ceramic & Industrial Design in Textile and Printmaking       

PG Courses: It also offers 2 year MFA courses with specialisations in Sculpture, Painting, Ceramic Design, Visual Communication Design and Textile Design.

Eligibility: Should have completed 12th or its equivalent to join in UG programmes.

Age limitation: For UG programmes should not have completed 23 years of age. However, SC/ST candidates should not have completed 26 years. For PG programmes, the applicant should have passed BFA in the appropriate subject.    

How to apply: Students should apply through the official website https://www.artandculture.tn.gov.in/ta/node/add/gov-college-of-fine-art-four-yrs. Admission is being provided after clearing the entrance examination as well as the interview.

Scholarship: Scholarship amount is allotted for SC/St students studying UG and PG courses. To add, they are also provided with art materials worth about Rs2000 for each year.         

Job scope: Those having completed fine art studies with creativity can become art teacher in private / government schools or colleges. It is also possible to get jobs in Textile mills, Media, Advertisements companies, leading ceramic factories and in Cine industry.
