Chennai: In a significant move, the Tamil Nadu government has converted 47,013 temporary positions in the school education department into permanent roles.

According to an official press release, a committee was established to review the need for extending temporary posts of teachers and non-teaching staff that had been in place for over a decade.

During a meeting on February 9, 2024, the committee recommended the conversion of all temporary positions under the Directorate of School Education into permanent roles. As a result, 47,013 posts, including various teaching and non-teaching staff positions, have now been regularized.

Additionally, 5,418 temporary posts for vocational education teachers and other non-teaching staff will remain as temporary posts slated for abolition. These positions will be surrendered upon the retirement of current employees.

Furthermore, 145 non-teaching positions, such as document assistants and drivers, will continue on a temporary basis, with extensions granted for another five years. Two posts of Principal Physical Education Inspector will also be renewed as per the recommendations.

This decision underscores the government's commitment to strengthening the education sector by addressing staffing concerns.
