New Delhi: A total of 49,189 scholarships have been disbursed under the Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) for the wards and widows of CAPFs and State Police Personnel since its inception in 2006-07 till 2023-24, the government informed Parliament on Tuesday.

In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said the merit list for the PMSS for the academic year 2024-25 will be generated after March 2025.

Of the total sanctioned amount of ₹139.96 crore, ₹139.94 crore has been disbursed till 2023-24, he said.

The scheme, aimed at enhancing educational and employment opportunities, provides financial support to reduce barriers to quality education. Since 2019-20, its coverage has been expanded to include the wards of State Police Personnel who lost their lives in naxal or terror attacks.

The scholarship amount has been revised over the years:
2006-07 to 2011-12: ₹1,500 per month for girls, ₹1,250 for boys
2012-13 to 2018-19: ₹2,250 per month for girls, ₹2,000 for boys
2019-20 onwards: ₹3,000 per month for girls, ₹2,500 for boys
