Coimbatore: School education officials have reported that 7,500 students have applied for free education under the 25% seat reservation scheme in private schools across Coimbatore district.
Under the Right to Free and Compulsory Education for Children Act, for the academic year 2024-25, 25% of seats in private self-financed schools are reserved for LKG and class I students.
The application deadline was set for May 20.
In Coimbatore district, there are 328 private schools with a total of 15,619 LKG seats. Of these, 3,950 seats are reserved under the Free and Compulsory Education Act.
So far, more than 7,500 applications have been submitted, according to school education officials.
