New Delhi: The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the establishment of a National Maritime Heritage Complex at Lothal, Gujarat, to showcase India's rich maritime history, dating back 4,500 years.

This world-class project, spearheaded by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, will be developed in two phases, with Phase 1A already 60% complete and targeted for completion by 2025.

Located at the ancient Indus Valley port of Lothal, the complex will house museums, galleries, theme-based parks, and educational centers. It aims to blend education and entertainment, offering visitors a unique insight into India's maritime legacy, from ancient artefacts to modern innovations.

The project is expected to generate 22,000 jobs, benefiting local communities, researchers, and tourists.

Phase 1B will feature additional galleries, the world's tallest lighthouse museum, and various facilities, while the second phase will include coastal state halls, a maritime-themed eco-resort, and entertainment zones.

Managed by an executive committee led by the Minister of Ports, the complex will be a landmark combining history and modern infrastructure, furthering India's cultural and historical significance globally.
