Chennai: Minister Saminathan has extended ₹10.01 lakh in financial aid to six journalists for medical treatment under the Journalist Welfare Fund Scheme.

As part of the Journalist Welfare Fund Scheme, ₹2.50 lakh is provided to journalists for medical expenses in cases of severe illness. Retired journalists also receive 50% of the total fund in the form of pension support.

In a ceremony held yesterday at the Chief Secretariat, Minister Saminathan handed over cheques worth ₹10.01 lakh to six journalists.

The event was attended by Tamil Development and Information Department Secretary Rajaraman, Information Department Director Vaidyanathan, and other officials.

Since 2021, a total of ₹25.11 lakh has been disbursed to 13 journalists under this welfare scheme.
