Chennai: The International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIITH) marked its 27th Foundation Day on September 2, 2024, with Sri Jayesh Ranjan, Telangana's Special Chief Secretary for Information Technology, as the chief guest.
He praised the institute's achievements, highlighting projects like the iRASTE road safety initiative, which was recently lauded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The event showcased IIITH's impactful research, including AI for oral cancer detection, geospatial solutions, drone-based building assessments, and smart city innovations. The institute's alumni awards were also inaugurated, with the Alumni Outstanding Service Award going to Soujanya Lanka and Vipul Kedia.
Since its inception in 1998, IIITH has grown from 50 students to around 2,000 across 28 programs. It ranks as India's top institute in AI and is Asia's second-best for robotics. With 29 research centers and initiatives like the Technology Innovation Hub for AI, IIITH remains a leader in applied research. Its Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (CIE), which has incubated over 300 startups, celebrated 15 years of innovation this year.
Looking ahead, IIITH plans to expand to over 250 faculty members and 5,000 students, focusing on sustainability, responsible AI, and translational research with social impact.
