Chennai: At the 12th convocation of the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, Kancheepuram (IIITDM Kancheepuram), 509 students received degrees on July 27, 2024.

The graduates included 23 PhDs, 130 dual degrees of BTech and MTech, 26 M.Techs, 7 M.Des, and 323 B.Techs.

The ceremony was attended by Prof. Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay, Director of the Indian Statistical Institute, and member of the Prime Minister's Science, Technology, and Innovation Advisory Council; Dr. Sridhar Vembu, Chairman of the Board of Governors; and Prof. M V Kartikeyan, Director of IIITDM Kancheepuram.

Prof. Bandyopadhyay emphasized the need for India to manufacture high-quality, low-cost products and praised IIITDM for producing skilled engineers. She highlighted India's rise in the Global Innovation Index from 81st in 2015 to 40th in 2022 and called for increased participation of women in STEM fields.

Dr. Vembu discussed the importance of a technological revolution, particularly in AI, biotechnology, and renewable energy, for sustainable development and nation-building.

Prof. Kartikeyan presented the annual report, noting that IIITDM received 16 projects worth Rs. 3.60 crore in 2023-24, filed 36 patents, and published 350 academic papers. The MaDeIT Innovation Foundation added seven companies to its incubator portfolio, now totaling 25 companies.
