Chennai: Since launching podcasts in India over five years ago, Spotify has seen a significant rise in podcast consumption across multiple languages, with Tamil being one of the top three.

Tamil podcast consumption has grown by over 85% in the past two years, with comedy podcasts accounting for over 50% of this.

Popular Tamil podcasts include "Schumy Vanna Kaviyangal," "Pacha Satta by RJ Balaji," and "Vocal Oli by Vijay Varadharaj."

Dhruvank Vaidya, Head of Music and Podcast at Spotify India, emphasized Spotify's commitment to supporting the podcast ecosystem and noted the importance of Tamil Nadu as a market for both podcasts and music.

Spotify recently hosted its fifth Podcasters' Day in Chennai, featuring creators like RJ Balaji and spotlighting local podcasts such as "MBA Made Simple" and "Timepass with Das."

Spotify's investment in local artists and creators is evident, with over 28,000 Indian artists using Spotify for Artists and more than 200,000 podcasts created on the platform in 2023 alone. The event also included a performance by Tamil singer Sai Abhyankkar, highlighting Spotify's ongoing support for local talent.
