Chennai: IIT Madras Zanzibar has introduced a new MTech program in Ocean Structures for the 2024-25 academic year.
This two-year program offers specializations in 'Offshore and Ship Structures' and 'Port Harbour & Coastal Structures,' with stream selection based on the students' CGPA after the first semester.
Eligible applicants must hold a four-year undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 60% marks.
The program is open to candidates of all nationalities, with applications closing on June 20, 2024.
Selection will be based on undergraduate marks (50% weightage) and performance in a screening test and interview (50% weightage), with tests and interviews conducted online.
The curriculum focuses on industry needs in the oil & gas and maritime sectors, including marine and offshore hydrodynamics and structural design for offshore platforms and ports.
Classes for the first academic year at IIT Madras Zanzibar started in October 2023.
The new MTech program aims to support the blue economy, a priority for Zanzibar, and align with Maritime India Vision 2047 by training professionals for careers in ocean engineering and related fields.
