Chennai: IIT Madras will host a 'Demo Day' on June 15-16, 2024, inviting JEE 2024 aspirants to experience campus life.
This unique opportunity among top IITs allows candidates to interact with students, faculty, and alumni, and learn about new offerings like the B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics from The Wadhwani School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.
The event aims to showcase why IIT Madras has been the top-ranked engineering institution in India for eight consecutive years (2016-2023) in the NIRF Rankings.
For those unable to visit, an online session on June 17, 2024, will feature Prof. V. Kamakoti and other faculty answering questions about academic and non-academic life.
Additionally, satellite Demo Day events will be held in Bengaluru on June 11 and Hyderabad on June 12. Registration is required due to limited seats, and interested candidates can sign up at www.askiitm.com/demo.
Prof. V. Kamakoti emphasized the importance of making informed career decisions and highlighted the opportunity for students to explore various engineering disciplines.
The AskIITM initiative, driven by alumni and students, supports aspirants with resources like a website for questions and over 200 informative videos on Instagram and YouTube.
Prof. Prathap Haridoss highlighted IIT Madras's academic flexibility, offering electives, minors, and Inter-Disciplinary Dual Degrees (IDDD), reducing the need for branch changes. Mr. Amrutash Misra noted the institute's perfect mix of academics, research labs, maker-spaces, and incubators.
Important Dates:
June 11, 2024: Bengaluru Demo Day
June 12, 2024: Hyderabad Demo Day
June 15-16, 2024: Chennai Demo Day
June 17, 2024: Online Demo Day
Academic Flexibility:
IIT Madras allows students to choose 40-50% of their courses as electives, offering minors and IDDD programs. The credit requirement for graduation has been reduced from 432 to 400, easing the academic load by 10%. First-year workshops are now part of the semester, adding vacation time, and a mandatory recreation course promotes a balanced lifestyle. An entrepreneurship elective is also available.
Sports Quota:
From 2024-25, IIT Madras will admit undergraduate sportspersons through the 'Sports Excellence Admission' (SEA) program, encouraging them to excel in both academics and sports.
Campus Placements:
As of April 30, 2024, over 80% of BTech/Dual Degree and 75% of Master's students have been placed, with 1,091 students securing positions in 256 companies. The median and average salaries are ₹19.6 lakh and ₹22 lakh, respectively.
Scholarships & Financial Aid:
IIT Madras, with alumni and CSR partners, provides financial support to 100% of BTech students with annual parental incomes between ₹1 lakh and ₹5 lakh. SC/ST BTech students are exempt from tuition fees. This financial support allows students to focus on their studies without financial stress.
