Chennai: The Madras High Court has instructed the special court to conclude the Group 1 examination malpractice case within six months.

The case traces back to the Group-1 Exam conducted by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) in 2016, which was marred by reports of irregularities. Following these reports, TNPSC Deputy Secretary Sankarasuppu lodged a complaint with the Central Crime Branch (CCB).

Ramkumar from Madurai was arrested based on this complaint, and the CCB initiated a case against several individuals. The trial is currently ongoing in the Special Court of Madras.

Among the accused, Karunanidhi, the second defendant, sought to have the case against him dismissed by filing a petition with the Madras High Court. The case was reviewed by Justice Seshasai.

During the proceedings, it was noted that 65 witnesses had been summoned, and the investigation involving 10 people had been completed.

The government argued that the petition to quash the case should not be entertained.

Justice Seshasai agreed with the government's position and directed the special court to expedite the investigation, mandating its completion within six months.

Consequently, the petition to dismiss the case was dismissed.
