Meta continues its trend of workforce reduction, with a fresh round of layoffs affecting teams across WhatsApp, Instagram, and Threads, though the number of affected employees remains unclear.

Following the significant layoffs of 11,000 employees in 2022 and another 10,000 in 2023, Meta has begun another round of job cuts, this time targeting teams within WhatsApp, Instagram, and Threads. While the scale of the layoffs is reportedly smaller than previous rounds, the company has yet to confirm the exact number of employees affected.

One such employee, Jane Manchun Wong, publicly shared her experience of being laid off on Threads. Wong expressed gratitude toward her team and encouraged potential opportunities in software and security engineering through her personal contact details.

Meta spokesperson Dave Arnold confirmed the layoffs to The Verge, citing the company's ongoing restructuring efforts to align resources with long-term strategic goals and location strategies. The reorganization involves relocating some teams and reassigning roles, with the company attempting to find alternative positions for those whose roles have been eliminated.

Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, had previously emphasized the importance of operating with a leaner workforce to increase efficiency and productivity, stating that this approach would help the company prioritize its goals and make work more fulfilling for employees.
