Delhi: The Union Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs organizes Youth Parliament Competitions across schools, universities, and colleges nationwide to foster democratic engagement among young people.

Initiated in 1966-67, these competitions aim to familiarize students with parliamentary procedures and instill values like discipline and tolerance.

The competitions are conducted for various educational institutions, including:

Schools under the Directorate of Education, Govt. of NCT Delhi, and NDMC.
Kendriya Vidyalayas.
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas.
Universities and colleges nationwide.
States and Union Territories receive financial support to organize these events, with reimbursement limits ranging from ₹2 lakh to ₹5 lakh annually, based on the size of their legislatures.

To expand outreach, the Ministry launched the NYPS portal in 2019, revamped as NYPS 2.0 in September 2024. The portal allows citizens to participate in Youth Parliament Sittings, group activities, and quizzes on the theme Bharatiya Democracy in Action.

Over 4,00,000 students have participated in these competitions, with an additional 1,00,000 engaging through NYPS.

This initiative strengthens democracy's roots and enhances youth understanding of parliamentary functions.

The details were shared by Minister of State, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
