New Delhi: The NEET entrance exam for postgraduate medical courses, which was abruptly canceled hours before its scheduled time, is set to be conducted later this month. Reports indicate that the question paper will be prepared just two hours before the exam.
The NEET exam for undergraduate medical courses, including MBBS and BDS, took place on May 5, with results announced on June 4. Allegations surfaced that the question paper was leaked prior to the exam, prompting an investigation by the CBI.
In a similar incident, the UGC NET exam for College Assistant Professors and research courses was recently canceled after its question paper was leaked two days before the exam.
These controversies have significantly damaged the credibility of the National Testing Agency (NTA), which administers these exams. Consequently, NTA Chairman SK Singh has been dismissed from his position.
Amid ongoing scrutiny, the NEET entrance exam for postgraduate medical courses was originally scheduled for June 23 but was canceled just hours before the exam. The central government has announced that the exam will be rescheduled after a comprehensive review of the examination process, citing the candidates' best interests.
In light of recent events, the government has disclosed plans to conduct the NEET postgraduate exam later this month, following a meeting between officials from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and the cybercrime division. To prevent further leaks, the question paper will be prepared only two hours before the exam.
Additionally, the rescheduled NET exams will take place from the 25th to the 27th of this month.
