Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), in collaboration with the University of Manipur, successfully organized a two-day training programme on human rights in India, concluding on 30th August 2024.

The event brought together over 100 participants, including legal experts, academicians, human rights defenders, and students, to advance human rights education and advocacy in the North-East.

The training programme, held at Manipur University's Court Hall, featured eight key sessions addressing critical aspects of human rights. Distinguished speakers, such as Hon'ble Justice Kh. Nobin Singh and Mr. Rinku Khumukcham, Chief Editor of Imphal Times, discussed topics ranging from the intersection of human rights and the criminal justice system to the role of media in promoting human rights.

The event provided a platform for diverse voices to explore the challenges and opportunities in protecting human rights in India.

In his valedictory address, NHRC Secretary General Shri Bharat Lal emphasized the importance of the Constitution's Preamble, Fundamental Rights, and Directive Principles of State Policy calling for fostering fraternity and peaceful resolution of conflicts, underscoring that upholding human rights must come from internal conviction rather than external enforcement.

He also highlighted the NHRC's recent camp sitting in Guwahati, where 25 cases of alleged human rights violations in Manipur were addressed.

Shri Lal concluded by reaffirming NHRC's commitment to promoting human rights through collaborative efforts with governments, academic institutions, NGOs, and human rights defenders, emphasizing the need for a collective resolve to treat every individual with respect and dignity.
