New Delhi: A NITI Aayog report highlights inadequate English proficiency as a major barrier to employability among state public university (SPU) graduates. It recommends partnerships with international language organisations to enhance language skills, citing successful initiatives in Punjab and Karnataka.

The report, Expanding Quality Higher Education Through States and State Public Universities, underscores SPUs' role in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and stresses the need to retain talent by improving job readiness.

It also flags gaps in digital infrastructure, urging investments in high-speed internet and online learning facilities. Faculty recruitment transparency is another concern, with a centralised hiring model proposed to ensure merit-based selections.

Low research funding is limiting global recognition, prompting calls for increased investment and international collaborations. The report urges syllabus revisions to align with global standards and boost employability.
