Chandigarh: President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday attended the convocation ceremony of Panjab University, lauding its contributions to academics, sports, research, and culture.

Addressing the gathering, she noted that the 140-year-old institution has carved a distinct identity, winning the prestigious Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy 17 times. She commended students Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh for making the nation proud with their medal-winning performances at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Murmu appreciated the university's efforts in fostering academia-industry collaboration and urged policymakers to further strengthen industry linkages and focus on application-based education. She emphasized the need for students to acquire advanced skills and stay updated on emerging technologies to navigate future challenges.

Highlighting the university's rich legacy of producing eminent personalities, including Presidents, Prime Ministers, Nobel laureates, and distinguished leaders, she urged students to uphold this tradition and contribute effectively to society, the nation, and the world.
