Chennai: Tamil Nadu has emerged as the frontrunner in employment generation in India, achieving a remarkable milestone by providing the highest number of jobs in the country.
According to a statement issued by the Tamil Nadu government, the state recorded an impressive 8,42,720 man-days of employment in 2023-24, surpassing Maharashtra and Gujarat.
The data, published in the Reserve Bank of India's growth report, highlights Tamil Nadu's significant strides in developing its human resources.
Maharashtra secured the second spot with 7,29,123 man-days, while Gujarat ranked third with 7,21,586 man-days. Tamil Nadu also outperformed its counterparts in the manufacturing sector, with 39,699 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) employing 4,81,807 workers, contributing to its leading position.
The comparative data indicates that Tamil Nadu averaged 1.75 man-days of employment per worker, a notable lead over Maharashtra's 1.13 and Gujarat's 1.37. This underscores Tamil Nadu's efficient utilization of its workforce and its focus on maximizing productivity.
The report also highlights Tamil Nadu's resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the state government implementing effective measures to revive industries and boost employment.
These initiatives have significantly enhanced job opportunities and worker productivity, propelling Tamil Nadu to the forefront of national development.
The study further points to a substantial gap in employment opportunities between Tamil Nadu and other large states like Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, reaffirming Tamil Nadu's position as a leader in workforce development.
This achievement reflects the state's commitment to fostering economic growth and improving livelihoods for its citizens.
