Chennai: The general counselling for Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) 2024 has concluded, offering a vivid picture of student preferences for institutions and courses with 29 colleges successfully filling all their seats, seven institutions failing to attract any students.
This year's TNEA saw over 440 engineering colleges under Anna University participate in the counselling process. Although general counselling has wrapped up, the application process for supplementary counselling is now underway.
Education consultant Ashwin shared key insights into the most popular colleges and courses.
Based on the latest admissions data, the following institutions emerged as top choices: Alagappa Chettiar Government College of Engineering and Technology, Karaikudi; Anna University Regional Campus - Coimbatore; Anna University Regional Campus - Tirunelveli; Central Electrochemical Research Institute (CECRI), Karaikudi; Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology (CIPET), Chennai; Chennai Institute of Technology, Chennai; Coimbatore Institute of Technology; Government College of Engineering , Bargur; Government College of Engineering, Karuppur, Salem; Government College of Engineering, Erode; Government College of Engineering, Chettikkarai Post, Dharmapuri; Government College of Engineering, Tirunelveli; Government College of Technology, Coimbatore; Indian Institute of Handloom Technology, Salem; Karpagam College of Engineering, Coimbatore; KIT, Coimbatore; PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore; PSG Institute of Technology and Applied Research, Coimbatore; Rathinam Technical Campus, Coimbatore; School of Architecture and Planning, Anna University, Chennai; Sri Eshwar College of Engineering, Coimbatore; Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore; SSN College of Engineering, Kalavakkam, Kanchipuram; Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai; University Departments of Anna University, ACT Campus, Chennai; University Departments of Anna University, CEG Campus, Chennai; University Departments of Anna University, MIT Campus, Chennai; V S B College of Engineering Technical Campus, Coimbatore; and V S B Engineering College, Karur with 100 per cent seats filled.
These institutions saw average cut-off marks above 175.
Other colleges that recorded over 90% seat occupancy include Kumaraguru College of Technology Coimbatore, Rajalakshmi Institutions Chennai, Loyola ICAM Chennai, Karaikudi Alagappa, KBR Coimbatore, Venkateswara, Karpagam, Anna University Coimbatore, Sri Sairam, and Saveetha Engineering College.
As for course preferences, Computer Science emerged as the top choice, accounting for 55.30% of the total admissions, followed by Electronics and Communication (15.50%), Mechanical (7.46%), Electrical (7.17%), and Civil Engineering (3.69%).
A total of 29 colleges filled 100% of their seats, while 81 colleges achieved more than 95% occupancy.
Additionally, 109 colleges filled over 90% of their seats, 149 colleges exceeded 80%, and 172 colleges crossed the 75% mark.
However, 52 colleges struggled to fill even 10% of their seats, and 12 colleges filled less than 1%. Most notably, 7 colleges were unable to fill a single seat during the counselling process.
