New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has launched a new framework enabling universities to conduct exams for SWAYAM courses on their own campuses.
This change aims to enhance the accessibility and flexibility of online learning, allowing students to complete their exams at their respective universities instead of through the National Testing Agency (NTA) or National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL).
UGC Chairman M. Jagadesh Kumar emphasized that this initiative supports students by simplifying the exam process and boosting participation. Under the new system, students can register through their universities, complete course activities, and take exams there, with credits transferred to their academic transcripts. The framework also includes provisions for re-examinations, offering a chance to retake exams in future semesters if needed.
The UGC's decision follows extensive discussions with Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and aims to integrate online learning more seamlessly with traditional academic programs. To assist universities, the UGC provides guidelines and a user guide, and requires institutions to appoint a Nodal Officer to manage the SWAYAM course process.
