Kottayam (Kerala): Sixteen students were injured on Friday when a temporary gallery collapsed during an event at a private college here, held to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, college sources said.

The incident took place around 8.45 am when students, including NCC and NSS volunteers from various units, were standing on the gallery to take a headcount, they said.

The structure gave way, causing several students to fall and sustain leg injuries after getting trapped between the collapsed wooden frames.

All the injured were immediately rushed to Pala General Hospital and nearby private hospitals for treatment. College authorities said none of the students sustained serious injuries.
