Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government on Sunday said over 64,000 students have secured employment through 272 job placement camps conducted under the state's flagship 'Naan Mudhalvan' scheme.
In a statement, the Special Programme Implementation Department said it has evolved into a key agency for monitoring and driving people-centric schemes, contributing to the government's overall development goals.
As part of the state's skilling initiatives, around 2.59 lakh youth have been trained in short-term courses across more than 30 sectors to enhance employability, the department said.
Specialised training in IT skills, English communication, and office administration has been provided to residents of social welfare hostels in Tambaram, Cuddalore, Sivaganga, Salem, Tirunelveli, and other regions.
Additionally, English language training was imparted to 2.59 lakh students from Adi Dravidar, Backward, and Most Backward communities residing in college hostels.
Describing the 'Naan Mudhalvan' scheme as a transformative effort in higher education, the department said it has benefited 41.3 lakh students and one lakh faculty members through skill development initiatives.
Out of 2.6 lakh students who participated in 272 job fairs organised under the scheme, 63,949 have received employment offers, the release added.
The department also highlighted the implementation of the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam, under which Rs 1,000 is being credited monthly to the bank accounts of 1.15 crore eligible women. Plans are underway to expand the scheme further.
