Kochi: The two-day 'Medi-Media' National Health Journalism Summit, jointly organised by Aster Medcity, Ernakulam Press Club and the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Kochi Chapter, concluded here on Sunday with an emphasis on strengthening collaboration between the health and media sectors.

Kochi Mayor M Anil Kumar, who attended the valedictory session as chief guest, underlined the importance of health reporting in shaping public awareness. More than 30 health journalists from across the country participated in the summit, which was held at IMA House, Kaloor.

The summit deliberated on the growing role of Artificial Intelligence in healthcare, noting that AI could transform patient treatment and reduce costs. However, participants stressed that technology cannot replace the human touch and compassion of healthcare workers. The critical role played by the media during the COVID-19 pandemic was cited as an example of how journalism contributes to healthcare delivery.

Panel discussions were held on themes such as “Prescribing the Right Dosage,” “Second Victim: Ethical and Legal Issues in Healthcare Reporting,” “Navigating Grey Zones,” “Heal in India,” “Intersection of AI,” and “Learning from COVID.” Experts from health, legal and media fields led the sessions.

In connection with World Alzheimer's Day, delegates also took part in a memory walk titled “Healthy Steps” at Marine Drive. A hospital familiarisation visit and houseboat ride were later arranged for the participants.
