Coimbatore: The inter-school quiz competition organised by 'Pattam', the student edition of Dinamalar newspaper, in association with SNS Education Group, began on Thursday at Asram Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Coimbatore.

Published with the objective of enhancing students' language, science, mathematics, social science, and general knowledge skills, Pattam has been conducting the quiz competition since 2018 to nurture learning enthusiasm and intellectual curiosity among school students.

In the Coimbatore round, 550 students participated in the qualifying round, from which 16 high scorers formed eight teams for the finals. After three competitive rounds, eighth grader Varthika and seventh grader Samiksha from Team D emerged winners.

Medals and certificates were presented to all finalists by Asram School Principal Devendran, Managing Director Gauri Udayendran, and Principal Saranya.

Students from over 150 schools across Coimbatore, Tiruppur, and Nilgiris districts have registered for the event. The top teams from each round will proceed to the semi-finals, followed by a grand state-level finale, where winners will receive attractive prizes.

Student participants said Pattam magazine helped them improve subject knowledge and awareness of current affairs. “Reading the magazine regularly made it easier to answer questions,” said Varthika, while Samiksha added, “It has helped me focus more on science and global news.”

Gauri Udayendran noted that Pattam plays a vital role in improving students' language and comprehension skills, encouraging them to learn beyond textbooks.
