Madurai: Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister Govi Chezhian announced plans to resolve issues surrounding the appointment of vice-chancellors in state universities and fill key academic vacancies.

Speaking in Madurai, the minister highlighted the prolonged vacancies for vice-chancellors in Madurai Kamaraj University and several other institutions. He attributed the delay to restrictions imposed by the Governor and the Central Government. However, under the directives of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, efforts are underway to reach an amicable resolution that prioritizes the welfare of students and faculty.

The minister also assured steps to address staffing shortages in higher education.

Plans are in place to recruit 4,000 assistant professors for government arts and science colleges, alongside filling over 60 principal positions in government colleges.

Regarding Madurai Kamaraj University, Govi Chezhian acknowledged its ongoing financial crisis and affirmed the government's commitment to finding a sustainable solution.
