Chennai: In a major milestone for international placements, 72 students from Anna University, Chennai, have secured high-paying job offers from two leading Japanese companies — Thirdwave Corporation and Koganei Seiki Co., Ltd.
The students were selected after a rigorous multi-stage recruitment process coordinated by the university's Centre for University-Industry Collaboration (CUIC).
The selection drive, which began in November 2024, saw over 450 applicants vying for roles. After stringent resume screening, written assessments, and technical interviews, 62 students were offered positions as Software Engineers in the AI Development Department at Thirdwave Corporation, while 10 students were selected as Technical Engineers by Koganei Seiki Co., Ltd.
The annual compensation for the selected candidates is approximately ₹20 lakh.
As part of the final onboarding process, company executives held virtual interactions with the selected students. On May 29, officials from Koganei Seiki joined via Zoom to congratulate their new recruits, in the presence of CUIC Director, Deputy Directors, and university faculty. Similarly, on June 2, senior leadership from Thirdwave Corporation formally issued appointment letters in an online session.
Both companies have planned an intensive three-month training programme in Chennai, covering Japanese language, technical orientation, and soft skills. During this period, students will receive a stipend before relocating to Japan in October 2025.
Congratulating the students from the University Departments and Constituent Colleges, CUIC Director Dr. T. Thyagarajan said, “This is a proud moment for Anna University and a testimony to our sustained focus on industry collaborations.” He added that the university is taking steps to strengthen foreign language training to further enhance international placement opportunities.
The placements underscore Anna University's growing global footprint and commitment to preparing students for the international job market.
