Prayagraj (UP): In an impressive result, 91 out of 94 prisoners who appeared for the Uttar Pradesh Board of Secondary Education's Class 12 examination from different jails across the state have passed the examination.

According to the information revealed in the list released by the UP Board on Friday, the Agra jail saw the highest participation with 17 prisoners appearing for the Intermediate (Class 12) exams and all of them clearing it.

Similarly, all eight prisoners from the Lucknow jail who took the examination passed. Besides, all five prisoners from Rampur and all nine from Bareilly achieved success in the Intermediate exams.

The UP Board's list indicates that 94 prisoners from 32 jails across UP appeared in the Intermediate examination, with 91 of them passing, resulting in an impressive overall pass percentage of 96.81 per cent for the incarcerated candidates at this level.

However, the performance of prisoners in the High School examination was comparatively lower. While all 10 prisoners from Ghaziabad and all 10 from Varanasi jails passed the High School exams, only 16 out of 21 prisoners from Agra and nine out of 13 from Bareilly were successful.

Overall, 105 prisoners from 32 jails appeared in the High School examination, with 91 of them passing, resulting in a pass percentage of 86.67 per cent for prisoners at the High School level.

From the Bareilly Central Jail 2, four inmates passed the UP Board examinations for high school and intermediate levels with first division, officials said.

Senior Jail Superintendent Vipin Mishra said six inmates had appeared for the exams conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad. Among them, three inmates cleared the High School examination with first division marks, while one inmate passed the Intermediate examination with first division.

"In the High School results, inmate Ravi scored 75.8 per cent, Shivam secured 71.30 per cent and Nadeem Khan achieved 75.33 per cent, all qualifying in the first division," Mishra stated.

He further informed that "inmate Mahesh, who appeared for the intermediate examination, secured 62.60 per cent and passed with first division, while Faizan Khan (53 per cent) and Ashok Kumar (51 per cent) passed in second division."

To celebrate their success, Superintendent Mishra congratulated all the successful candidates and distributed sweets.

"I encouraged them to continue on the path of becoming responsible citizens," he added.

Other inmates in the jail also extended their best wishes to the successful candidates, advising them to pursue a better life ahead.

The prison administration had made special study arrangements inside the jail for the inmates who registered for the board exams. Interestingly, the teaching support was provided by fellow inmates who had previously acquired educational qualifications, Mishra said.
