Pune/Chennai: Bajaj Finance Ltd. has reported a 27 per cent rise in consumer loan disbursals during the recent festive season, reflecting stronger consumer sentiment and wider financial inclusion following recent GST reforms and income tax changes.
Between September 22 and October 26, the non-bank lender disbursed around 63 lakh consumer loans, marking a 29 per cent growth in value compared to last year. During this period, the company added 23 lakh new customers, of whom 52 per cent were new-to-credit borrowers.
Chairman Sanjiv Bajaj said government policy measures had boosted consumption-led growth, enabling middle- and lower-income families to spend confidently. “Over half of our new customers this festive season are taking their first loan from the formal financial system,” he said.
Lower GST rates on televisions and air-conditioners led to a 6 per cent drop in average loan ticket size while driving a premiumization trend—loans for 40-inch and above TVs rose to 71 per cent of total TV financing.
Bajaj Finance, part of Bajaj Finserv, operates across 4,200 locations with 239,000 distribution points, serving 110 million customers through digital and on-ground channels.
