Coimbatore: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Coimbatore branch, in collaboration with the Regional Science Centre, organised a 'Meet the Scientist' programme for school students on July 17.

The interactive session saw participation from over 180 students from Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Ondipudur and Rathinapuri, as well as ELGI Matriculation School.

In his inaugural address, Shri Rino John S, Scientist-D, highlighted the importance of standards and quality in everyday life and stressed BIS's role in educating students through its Learning Science via Standards (LSVS) lesson plans. These plans, he noted, help young learners understand scientific concepts through the lens of standardisation.

District Science Officer Shri Akhilan, representing the Regional Science Centre, lauded the BIS initiative, especially its focus on reaching government school students. Students who attended the event expressed their enthusiasm and appreciation for the unique learning opportunity.

The session aimed to spark curiosity and interest in science among students by integrating the concept of standards into science education.
