Chennai: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) conducted a two-day training programme for quality control personnel from the polypropylene moulding and extrusion industry at its Chennai branch office on July 30 and 31.

The training, held under BIS's bi-monthly Capsule Course Training Programme, focused on the Indian Standard IS 10951, which pertains to polypropylene materials used in moulding and extrusion processes.

Shri S.D. Dayanand, Scientist-F and Head of the BIS Chennai Branch Office, inaugurated the programme with a welcome address, outlining the training objectives and its relevance to industry practices.

Participants from industries based in and around Chennai, primarily catering to the automobile sector, were familiarised with the key requirements of IS 10951, including prescribed test methods and quality control procedures.

As part of the training, attendees visited the Central Institute of Plastic Engineering & Technology (CIPET), Chennai, where they were given practical exposure to sample preparation and testing methods.

The programme concluded with an interactive session led by Dr. Meenakshi Ganesan, Deputy Director General (Southern Region), and Ms. Chitra Gupta, Deputy Director General (Hallmarking & Training). Participation certificates were distributed, and the initiative was well received by attendees.
