Ranchi: The Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra, has entered into an academic collaboration with IIT-Kharagpur to jointly organise the international conference on Frontiers in Surface Engineering & Additive Manufacturing (FSEAM 2026), officials said on Monday.

Scheduled from January 21-23 at IIT-Kharagpur's Kalidas Auditorium, the conference is being hosted by the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, IIT-Kharagpur, in association with BIT-Mesra. It will bring together global experts in surface engineering, additive manufacturing, hybrid processing, and advanced materials.

BIT-Mesra Vice-Chancellor Prof. Indranil Manna highlighted the conference's value for students, saying, “When students engage directly with experts working on wear, durability, process control, sustainability and other core functions, they begin to understand how theory translates into engineering decisions.”

FSEAM 2026 aims to provide a global platform for presenting scientific advancements, facilitating technical discussions, and fostering collaborations that connect academic research with practical industrial applications, the statement added.

The conference underscores both institutes' commitment to bridging the gap between research and industry, equipping students with insights and exposure to cutting-edge developments in materials science and engineering.
