Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday dismissed petitions challenging the publication of a list of tainted candidates for West Bengal government-sponsored and aided school jobs, following a Supreme Court directive.
Justice Sougat Bhattacharyya said the petitions were not maintainable as special leave petitions are pending before the Supreme Court. The list, published by the West Bengal Central School Service Commission (SSC) per the apex court's August 28 order, names 1,804 candidates whose selections in the first state-level selection test (SLST) 2016 for classes 9 to 12 were set aside.
The petitioners, whose names appeared in the list, had claimed they were untainted. However, the court noted the SSC had been directed by the Supreme Court to place the list in the public domain within seven days of the order.
More than 25,000 teaching and non-teaching staff in government-sponsored and aided schools lost their jobs following the Supreme Court judgment that found the entire 2016 selection process tainted.
