Jammu: The Central University should be set up in Jammu region and an Indian Institute of Management in Kashmir, Congress MP from Jammu-Poonch constituency Madan Lal Sharma said here today.

Sharma said the the National Conference-Congress coalition government headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah should ensure that vested elements in the government and outside do not exploit the issue of location of the central university.

'The central university has exclusively been sanctioned for Jammu and IIM for Kashmir by the Centre and there is no need to create confusion on this issue,' Sharma said.

The chief minister has transparent intentions over the setting up of a central university in Jammu but that there are some elements in the bureaucracy who are creating confusion on the issue for their own benefits, he alleged.

'This has also led to some political elements with vested interests attempting to exploit the issue in Jammu. The coalition government needs to be careful of these developments,' Sharma said.

The state government will do its best to ensure equitable development of all the three regions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, he added.
