Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday said the Centre has approved 62 additional postgraduate (PG) seats in six state-run medical colleges and hospitals for the 2025-26 academic year.

Majhi described the approval as a “significant milestone” in strengthening medical education and healthcare infrastructure, particularly in western Odisha.

In a letter to Union Health Minister J P Nadda, he expressed gratitude to the Centre and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for the approval, noting that the new PG seats would enhance the quality of medical teaching and specialised healthcare delivery across the state.

“The state government is committed to ensuring full compliance with the norms and standards prescribed by the National Medical Commission and will extend all necessary support to develop these institutes into premier centres of medical excellence,” Majhi said.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, in a post on X, detailed that 15 seats were approved for VIMSAR, Burla; 3 for SCB Medical College, Cuttack; 6 for PGIMER and Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar; 20 for PRM Medical College, Baripada; 8 for FM Medical College, Balasore; and 10 for Bhima Bhoi Medical College, Bolangir.
