Chennai: Student enrollment in Chennai Corporation-run schools has witnessed a significant surge, with numbers tripling in the 2025-26 academic year.

A review meeting chaired by Mayor R. Priya was held to assess the functioning and development of 417 schools under the Corporation's Education Department.

During the meeting, it was revealed that 22,870 new students have enrolled this year, marking a three-fold increase compared to the 6,000 enrollments recorded last year.

The review also addressed the overall pass percentage, challenges faced by schools with lower academic performance, and the status of infrastructure facilities.

Deputy Mayor M. Mahesh Kumar, Corporation Commissioner J. Kumaragurubaran, and senior education department officials were present at the meeting.
