Chennai: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Tuesday released the results of the Civil Services Examination 2024. Sivachandran from Chennai secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 23, emerging as the state topper from Tamil Nadu.
A total of 9,92,599 candidates applied for the preliminary examination held on June 16, 2024, of whom 5,83,213 appeared. Subsequently, 14,627 candidates qualified for the mains held in September, and 2,845 candidates advanced to the interview stage conducted between January 7 and April 17, 2025.
Shakti Dubey from Uttar Pradesh, a BSc Biochemistry graduate from Allahabad University, topped the exam. Harshita Goyal from Gujarat and Tangre Arshit Parag from Tamil Nadu secured the second and third ranks, respectively.
Notably, three women feature in the top five ranks. From Tamil Nadu, several candidates secured top positions — Monica (AIR 39), Pavithra (AIR 42), and Sri Rusat (AIR 52). Arvind Radhakrishnan also figured in the top 100, securing AIR 80.
Sivaschandran is a beneficiary of the Tamil Nadu government's 'I am the First' scheme, aimed at mentoring aspirants from underprivileged backgrounds.
Congratulating the achievers, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said, “It is a proud moment that a student trained under the 'Naan Mudhalvan' scheme, has topped the state. The initiative continues to inspire hope and empowerment among thousands.”
