Chennai: Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company Limited (Chola), the financial services arm of the Murugappa Group, has partnered with Chennai-based NGO AID India to provide sustainable housing for Irular families under the “Eureka Homes” initiative.

Inaugurated by Jeeva Balakrishnan, Chief Human Resources Officer of Chola, the project aims to improve living conditions for the traditionally snake-catching Irular community, many of whom are transitioning to embroidery, fishing, and daily wage labour.

The initiative addresses long-standing challenges posed by unsafe and dilapidated shelters. Despite land pattas provided by the Tamil Nadu government, many families lacked resources to construct durable homes. Eureka Homes offers climate-resilient housing equipped with heat insulation, rain protection, and solar-powered electricity.

The project, with active participation from the local community, has already delivered 14 homes to families in Gurupuram tribal village, Tiruvallur district, during the financial year 2024-25.

Commenting on the initiative, Chola Managing Director & CEO Ravindra Kumar Kundu said, “Every family deserves the security of a home. Through Eureka Homes, we aim to empower Irular families with safe, permanent shelters, helping them plan for a better future with dignity and confidence.”

Chola's CSR efforts extend beyond financial inclusion to holistic community development, ensuring that vulnerable communities gain long-term stability. The Eureka Homes initiative reflects the company's ongoing commitment to social progress and fostering meaningful change.

Cholamandalam operates across India with over 2,481 touchpoints and serves more than 43 lakh customers, combining business growth with community-focused initiatives.
