Chennai: The CISF Coastal Cyclothon 2025, a nationwide initiative covering 6,553 km along India's coastline, reached Chennai on Sunday, marking a key milestone in its journey.
The event at Marina Beach witnessed an overwhelming public response and support from eminent personalities.
Former Indian cricket captain M.S. Dhoni, philanthropist Nawabzada Mohammed Asif Ali, athlete Shiny Wilson, actress Aishwarya Rajesh, and industrialist Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti were among the dignitaries present. Senior officials, including CISF Inspector General S.R. Saravanan and Chennai Port Chairperson Sunil Paliwal, also attended.
The celebrations featured cultural performances, including Bharatnatyam, Silambam, Assamese Bihu, and Punjabi Giddha, reflecting India's diverse heritage. The cyclothon, aimed at raising awareness about coastal security and community participation, has directly engaged over 20 lakh people and garnered 80 lakh online interactions.
With 4,793 km covered so far, cyclists have traversed multiple states, engaging with schools, colleges, and community centers to promote local vigilance. The concept of "Tat Prahari" (coastal sentinels) has been emphasized, encouraging communities to act as the eyes and ears of security forces.
The journey continues through Kerala and Puducherry, culminating in Kanyakumari on March 31. Upcoming major events are scheduled in Mangaluru on March 26 and Cochin on March 29.
The CISF Coastal Cyclothon has received support from top sports figures, film stars, and political leaders, reinforcing its impact as a unifying movement for national security.
