Chennai: CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre (CSIR-SERC), a national laboratory under the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), Government of India, will mark its Foundation Day on Friday, 26th September 2025.

The laboratory, located at the CSIR Campus in Taramani, Chennai, is engaged in research, consultancy, and advanced testing in structural engineering.

The campus also houses regional centres of other CSIR laboratories specialising in disciplines such as electrochemistry (CSIR-CECRI), electronics (CSIR-CEERI), environment (CSIR-NEERI), metallurgy (CSIR-NML), and instrumentation (CSIR-CSIO).

To celebrate the occasion, all laboratories at the Chennai campus will host an Open Day for high school and college students, teachers, media personnel, professional engineers, industrial professionals, and the general public. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the scientific work, innovations, and research undertaken at the laboratories.

Ahead of the event, the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, organised a press meet at the CSIR Campus. The session was chaired by Shri Arun Kumar, Director, PIB, Chennai.

Addressing the media, Dr. N. Anandavalli, Director, CSIR-SERC and Coordinating Director, CSIR Madras Complex, highlighted the campus's research and development activities, major facilities, ongoing projects, and technical programmes serving public, strategic, private, and social domains.

She invited the general public and media representatives to visit the laboratories to gain first-hand experience of the scientific and technological expertise developed at the campus.
