Chennai: As part of its Diamond Jubilee celebrations, the CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre (CSIR-SERC), a constituent laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), organised a quiz competition exclusively for undergraduate civil engineering students on Wednesday.

The event, held at the CSIR Campus in Taramani, Chennai, aimed to foster scientific curiosity and research aptitude among young engineering minds.

Dr. N. Anandavalli, Director, CSIR-SERC, inaugurated the event and delivered the welcome address, providing an overview of the institute's contributions to structural engineering research. The quiz competition was conducted by Shri A.K. Farvaze Ahmed, Principal Scientist, CSIR-SERC, and his team.

A total of 57 students from 19 engineering colleges across Tamil Nadu took part in the screening round. Based on their performance, the top six teams — comprising three members each — qualified for the finals, which were conducted on the same day. The final round featured multiple segments, including audio-visual rounds, all focused on civil engineering themes.

According to organisers, the participating students exhibited high levels of enthusiasm and sportsmanship, contributing to the success of the event.

Prize-winning colleges will receive trophies, while finalists will be awarded shields and prize money during the main Diamond Jubilee function scheduled for June 10, 2025.

CSIR-SERC is commemorating its 60th year since establishment through a series of academic and outreach activities throughout the year.
