Chennai: The CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre (CSIR-SERC), Chennai, has transferred its indigenous technology for a high-velocity, multi-hit resistant movable protective booth for security personnel to Hyderabad-based Kistler Morse Automation Limited, a member of Laghu Udyog Bharati (LUB).
The technology transfer agreement was signed on Thursday at CSIR-SERC between its Director, Dr N Anandavalli, and Capt K K Sharma, Executive Vice President of Kistler Morse Automation. The booth was developed by a team led by Dr Amar Prakash, Senior Principal Scientist, along with Dr K Sathish Kumar, Chief Scientist and Head, BKMD, and other scientists and technical officers of CSIR-SERC.
Designed to meet National Institute of Justice (NIJ) Level-III standards, the booth can withstand multiple hits from 7.62 AP projectiles. It is constructed using steel fibre-reinforced cementitious composite panels within a steel frame. The modular unit can be assembled or dismantled within an hour without heavy machinery, making it highly mobile and easy to reposition.
Key features include multi-impact and ricochet resistance, cost-effectiveness, reusability, and aesthetic design. The booth is suitable for protecting security personnel deployed at critical installations such as defence establishments, airports, embassies, and facilities guarded by CISF, CRPF, BSF, and other security agencies.
CSIR-SERC said the innovation aligns with the government's Make in India initiative and enhances security infrastructure with a fully indigenous solution.
