Dindigul (Tamil Nadu): Courses in Data Science and Electronic Systems are witnessing increased demand due to better employment prospects, said V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras on Friday.
Speaking at the Dinamalar's 'Vazhikatti' - a higher education and career guidance programme held at PVK Mahal, Dindigul that was jointly organised by Dinamalar and Sri Krishna Educational Institutions, Coimbatore the Director highlighted the growing scope in emerging technology sectors.
"Nearly 15 lakh students appear for JEE Main annually, and around 2.5 lakh qualify for JEE Advanced. Only the top scorers secure seats at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). However, students can now pursue B.S. programmes in Data Science and Electronic Systems through online mode without JEE. They only need to clear a qualifying examination," Kamakoti said.
He noted that India manufactures over 30 crore mobile phones annually, underlining the urgent need for indigenous electronic chip production. "This opens up vast career opportunities for students in electronics and related sectors," he added.
Kamakoti also encouraged students to explore specialised engineering streams such as Naval Architecture, Aerospace, Biomedical, and Chemical-Mechanical engineering, particularly in the field of medical device manufacturing.
The programme aimed to guide students on higher education pathways and emerging career options in science and technology.
