New Delhi: Delhi University has decided to restrict election campaigning on campus and tighten security at colleges and hostels ahead of the 2026 Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections, officials said on Tuesday.

The decisions were taken at an online meeting on Monday involving DU principals, deans, directors, hostel authorities, heads of departments and Delhi Police officials, according to a statement issued by the university's proctor's office.

The DUSU election is scheduled to be held on September 18, with September 10 as the last date for filing nominations.

Under the new guidelines, a maximum of five members will be allowed on university or college premises for election campaigning at a time, provided academic activities are not disrupted.

The university has also barred male members from entering girls' colleges and hostels during the campaign, except candidates.

Parking on roads adjoining the North and South campuses as well as DU colleges will also be prohibited during the election period. Violators will face legal action, the university said.

Security arrangements will be strengthened, with police patrolling vehicles available round-the-clock.

Police will maintain entry registers at security barricades to monitor vehicles entering from outside.

The university has also tightened rules for hostel premises, restricting entry of outside guests in both boys' and girls' hostels. Hostel canteens will be monitored and outside guests will not be permitted there.

The meeting was attended by proctor Manoj Singh, joint proctor Geeta Sahare, chief election officer Prof Raj Kishore Sharma, chief returning officer Prof Rajesh and other university teachers.

The measures are aimed at preventing election campaigning from disrupting regular academic and hostel activities during the DUSU election period.
