Chennai: The Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI), Chennai, on Tuesday celebrated Institute of National Importance (INI) Day 2025 with a day-long programme focused on the theme “Vision 2030 - Empowering Today, Transforming Tomorrow.”

The event, marked by the participation of industry doyens, academicians and alumni, began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, Tamil Thai Vaazhthu and the national anthem. FDDI Chennai Executive Director M Sundaresan welcomed the gathering.

Mr Selvam, Executive Director, Council for Leather Exports, was the chief guest with Dr K Senthil Raj, IAS, Managing Director, SIPCOT, Dr N Mohan, CEO, Kothari Group, Sh Abdul Razak of VKC, and Puneet Malhotra of University of Northampton as guests of honour.

FDDI Managing Director Vivek Sharma presented 'Vision 2030', a strategic blueprint to elevate FDDI into a global design institution anchored on 10 pillars.

The dignitaries released the 'One FDDI' compendium — a consolidated document of FDDI services offered to the leather and footwear sector. A panel discussion on “Role of FDDI - Industry Perspective” followed with experts from CSIR-CLRI, Walkaroo, PA Footwear and Nordic Hide.

Alumni and student sessions showcased aspirations, career insights and creative talent, culminating in cultural performances and a fashion show titled 'Stride & Style'. The celebrations concluded with felicitation of contributors and a networking high tea.
