New Delhi: The Government of India on Saturday announced the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar 2025, the country's highest recognition for exceptional contributions in science, technology, and innovation across 13 disciplines.
Instituted to promote pathbreaking research and inspire scientific excellence, the awards are given in four categories — Vigyan Ratna, Vigyan Shri, Vigyan Yuva-Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar, and Vigyan Team.
The Vigyan Ratna award, conferred posthumously on noted astrophysicist Prof. Jayant Vishnu Narlikar (Physics), honours lifetime achievements in science and technology.
The Vigyan Shri awardees include Dr. Gyanendra Pratap Singh (Agricultural Science), Dr. Yusuf Mohammad Seikh (Atomic Energy), Dr. K Thangaraj (Biological Sciences), Prof. Pradeep Thalappil (Chemistry), Prof. Aniruddha Bhalchandra Pandit (Engineering Sciences), Dr. S Venkata Mohan (Environmental Science), Prof. Mahan Mj (Mathematics and Computer Science) and Shri Jayan N (Space Science and Technology).
Under Vigyan Yuva, 14 young scientists below 45 years were honoured, including Dr. Deepa Agashe, Prof. Amit Kumar Agarwal, Prof. Mohanasankar Sivaprakasam, among others. The Vigyan Team award went to the Aroma Mission team of CSIR for its contribution in agricultural science.
Nominations were invited between October 4 and November 17, 2024, through the awards portal and scrutinised by an expert committee chaired by the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government.
The award ceremony will be held later, the government said.
