Kurukshetra: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Kurukshetra has constituted a five-member committee to investigate recent student suicides on campus, officials said on Sunday.

The panel, headed by Dean of Student Welfare Prof Lillie Dewan, will interact with students, faculty members and hostel staff to ascertain the circumstances behind the incidents.

The move comes after a 19-year-old B.Tech student from Bihar allegedly died by suicide on Thursday, the fourth such case reported on campus in the past two months. A day later, another first-year student allegedly attempted suicide but was prevented by fellow students, police said.

In response, the institute has directed students to vacate hostels and declared a temporary vacation for all undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students. Officials said most hostel residents have already left, while requests from outstation students are being considered.

The institute has also formed three additional committees to address student concerns, including mentorship and hostel-level interaction mechanisms.

Meanwhile, students have raised concerns over disruption to academics and alleged gaps in communication with the administration. Police have deployed personnel on campus, and an investigation into the incidents is underway.
