New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu on Monday said a future-ready police force led by young officers will play a vital role in the making of Viksit Bharat, while addressing probationers of the 77th Regular Recruit (2024 batch) of the Indian Police Service (IPS) at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Congratulating the 174 probationers, including 62 lady officers — the highest representation so far, the President said their achievements reflect that excellence in policing is gender-neutral. She urged them to realise their full potential and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.

Murmu underlined that law and order is a precondition for investment and growth, stressing that effective policing is as crucial as economic incentives in attracting investments. She reminded officers that with power comes accountability, urging them to choose what is ethical over what is expedient.

The President emphasised that moral authority, built on integrity and fairness, earns lasting public respect and trust. She advised officers to retain compassion and humaneness despite frequent encounters with crime and criminals.

Highlighting the impact of technology, Murmu said policing has entered a new era with emerging threats like “digital arrests.” She urged officers to stay ahead in adopting technologies such as artificial intelligence to counter misuse.

Recalling Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's vision, she said the IPS has been instrumental in strengthening the unity and integrity of the nation.
