Chennai: Godrej Consumer Products Limited (GCPL) is redefining the future of work by embedding inclusion into everyday manufacturing operations, guided by Chairperson Nisa Godrej's vision of a workplace free from communication and access barriers.

A key initiative is the introduction of SignAble, an on-call Indian Sign Language (ISL) interpretation service. Through QR codes placed across factory premises, employees can connect to live ISL interpreters within minutes, enabling seamless communication during meetings, training sessions and shopfloor interactions. GCPL has also introduced a Digital Watch for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), equipped with GPS, video and emergency alert features to enhance safety and confidence at work.

To address skill gaps, GCPL partnered with the Nettur Technical Training Foundation to design a 60-day residential skilling programme for hearing-impaired youth, integrating ISL into technical training and shopfloor exposure. The initiative has created job-ready talent and a replicable education-to-employment model.

Recognising that inclusion requires mindset shifts, the company has conducted 33 sensitisation programmes on disability, gender and LGBTQIA+ issues, reaching nearly 290 employees per session. Inclusion was further highlighted during Pride March 2025 held at a manufacturing plant, featuring a nukkad natak and interactions with transgender activist Kalki Subramaniam.

GCPL has also strengthened accessibility through universal design-based infrastructure, inclusive policies and targeted hiring drives. These efforts have resulted in the onboarding of over 150 women, 13 PwDs and five transgender employees, reinforcing GCPL's commitment to dignity, equity and opportunity at work.
